What is mediation?

Meditation is the art and practice of therapeutic focus which main goal is to change one's mind state or body and separate mind from thought to feeling. A meditation practice involves the following three aspects:

1) A focus on one's intention with respect to a given object, feeling or experience.

2) A practice of focusing the mind by observing a particular object, feeling or experience.

3) A practice of practicing the mental movement of focusing the mind.

The other definition says that meditation is a practice of exercising the mind or entering an altered state of consciousness for a beneficial effect, or for the mind to acknowledge the content of an altered state without identifying itself with it or as an end in itself.

Meditation refers to many different practices, including techniques to increase the inner energy of the life force (qi, ki, prana, etc.) and to develop compassion, love, patience, long-suffering, and forgiveness. Meditation has been practiced since ancient times as part of religious traditions and beliefs.

Meditation is used especially in yoga and in Eastern religions and spirituality (Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Jainism), and recently also by some psychotherapeutic schools.

Types of mediation techniques

Did you know that there are as many meditation techniques as there are, for example, sports disciplines? The only way to find the best type of meditation for you is to try it out.

Different types of meditation have different advantages and characteristics. Some of these techniques will work better for you than others - just like sports or diets. They work on different people in different ways. Everyone has their own preferences and needs.

This may cause a health concern if some people become overly sensitive to or dependent on exercise but there is no evidence, at this time and at a minimum, that yoga should be done without medical advice or support. Yoga poses that involve sitting and lying have often been recommended to the general public to increase their physical fitness levels in some populations and in other populations they are considered to have health benefits because of the energy they provide when performing yoga. There is also evidence that yoga improves cognitive function in healthy people with attention deficit disorder (ADD) and that it can improve the memory-related cognitive functioning in people with dementia (Bergman, 2004). It is a popular activity with many people, some of these people are very physically active as well, but do yoga to improve their physical fitness levels.

If you are not able to do yoga, or if you are not particularly fit or exercise enough to be very fit (or even fit enough to be good at it), then you are a good candidate for a Yoga class. A yoga therapist is the one most likely to help you out but they are the ones with the most experience with the specific yoga poses and techniques, and the best advice on how to do each yoga pose. They are the ones who can give you suggestions on the right yoga practice for the right body.
