Tuya Smart switch relay controlling power inverter
This tutorial shows how I modified a Foval 12V power inverter for remote ON/OFF control using a Tuya Smart Switch (TYWRA-RF). The setup suits camper vans, RVs, off-grid solar, boats, and other 12V systems needing convenience and automatic battery protection. Instead of switching heavy DC cables, I removed the inverter’s front-panel switch and used the Tuya Smart Switch relay contacts. The inverter can then be controlled anywhere via the Tuya Smart app over WiFi. The Tuya switch draws its power from the LOAD output of my MPPT solar charge controller. When Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD) activates, the LOAD output turns off, cutting power to the Tuya switch. The inverter shuts off immediately, avoiding standby drain and helping prevent deep battery discharge. No custom programming or costly controllers are required. The video covers the wiring, inverter modification, Tuya relay connection, and how everything works in a real off-grid camper electrical system.
